Nocturne 1999 - Muscat Canelli Dessert Wine, Columbia Valley

Here we go with another inspiration wine. This one is drawn from the fabulous Rutherglen sweet muscats of Australia. We started with very ripe (29.8 brix) Muscat from the fabulous Champoux vineyard and then barrel fermented this for a short while before fortifying with grape spirits. Then came FIVE YEARS of barrel aging at ambient temperature (from 35F in winter to 85F in summer) which helped develop an incredible bouquet reminiscent of cream soda, vanilla, orange rind, honey and lovely spices. The flavors are deeply sweet and rich with ripe, floral/ spicy tones and an incredibly long finish. This is a wine to reflect with and savor. We have been patient – trying not to do too much barrel tasting as we watched the wine develop over five years of barrel aging. It is now your turn to reward yourself with our patience. Finished wine is 19.8% alcohol and 14.2% residual sugar. $25/ 375 mL.

Gold Medal McMinnville Wine and Food Classic. $25.
